SV Darmstadt 98 Special Jersey
It’s that time of year when clubs reveal their special jerseys and this week we have seen SV Darmstadt join the list. With only 1098 manufactured we had to get our hands on it – it looked great!
There have a been a lot of special jerseys this season and many have been able to give that feel of something special. The packaging of the Borussia Monchengladbach Anniversary shirt, the Christmas shirt from Nuremburg and recently the Fortuna Dusseldorf shirt which gives something back to the regions breweries. All packaging I have kept. However, not Darmstadt. Their special jersey arrived in a cardboard box with the shirt not even in a bag or wrapped in anything – just a shirt in a box.
The SV Darmstadt 98 Special Jersey is not a carnival shirt or a blackout number. Nor is this another shirt representing diversity. This jersey goes back in time, 1998 to be precise to celebrate a significant date in the clubs history.

Design
The Blue and White chequered pattern is bold to say the least whilst the red lily makes it extremely eye-catching. Inside the neck is the quote “Because in her red hell we had ‘a lot of fun” aiming this at their local rivals Offenbach.

Easter Jersey
The SV Darmstadt 98 Special Jersey known as The Easter Jersey rewinds fans of Die Lilien back to April 12th, Easter Sunday, 1998. Their beloved team, facing possible relegation, were 2-0 down in their derby against Kickers Offenbach at The Bieberer Berg Stadion after 30 minutes. They managed to pull level before half-time and recovered to win 3-2 with a 60th minute goal whilst wearing this iconic kit.
Relegation Shirt?
The SV Darmstadt 98 Special Jersey does commemorate a famous and dramatic victory against their rivals, but you have to question whether it is something that Darmstadt fans can really get behind. Following the great victory Darmstadt lost their final match 0-2 to SC Weismain. A victory elsewhere for SC Neukirchen was enough for them to overhaul Darmstadt who found themselves relegated anyway.

Whilst it is great to see this design rekindled, it possibly won’t be taken to everyone’s hearts.
