Sunday saw us visit the much anticipated Stadion am Panzenberg for a Regionalliga North match between Bremer SV and Teutonia Ottensen.

Who are Bremer SV

Bremer SV play in the Regionalliga North and are located within a 20 minute stroll of the City Centre.  Regionalliga is the fourth tier of German football.  We found Stadion am Panzenberg hidden away behind some houses and close to the main roads.

The stadium itself has a capacity of 4,999 and for this match there were only 726 fans present.  Bremer SV have called Stadion am Panzenberg their home since 1963.

The Panzenberg Stadium is easy to access being near the centre of Bremen and staying near the main HBF is a great location for attending a match here.

The two long sides of the pitch is where most of the fans congregate.  The far side of the ground was undercover and as the fans filled it up, blue and white flags dressed the terraces.  Ahead of the game this stand was playing techno music.

Current Season

We attended on the 10th matchday of the 2024/25 season with the hosts in 10th position.  It had been a great start to the campaign with an opening day 3-0 victory against the Hamburg second team, however a run of several defeats has led to their current position.  Last time out Bremer beat Eintracht Norderstedt 4-0.

Other things we noticed…

On arrival inside Stadion am Panzenberg we spotted an Altona fan in his home colours enjoying a beer with a Bremer fan.  Of course the club from Hamburg were not the opponents and after a brief chat we found out that there is a friendship between these fan groups.  There were other Altona fans who had also made the trip.

The club shop looked like something you would hope to find at a Christmas Market.  No tin shed, but instead a beautiful wooden hut, which replicated the food outlets too.  The new Trikot’s (Jersey’s) were hanging to be seen and at this matchday they launched replica versions for children too.  We have long been admirers of the Bremer shirts and picked up the new away version in black and grey.

The lovely fanshop

We have long been aware of clothing and accessories in the Bremer SV fanshop showing a wonky centre circle.  What could it mean?  We were able to find out the answer to this from Torsten from the club itself…

What does the wonky circle represent?

The story comes from an image of Stadion am Panzenberg which you can locate on Google Earth.  The images show a less than perfectly created centre circle on the pitch and has become quite famous.

Food and Drink

Whilst there was a main bar to quickly refill beer cups, there was a separate barrel bar we were introduced to which supplied some more specialist beers which we tested out. There were also Bratwurst available and fries too.

There was one omission at Stadion am Panzenberg which had to be pointed out to us – there were no floodlights.  This is due to the proximity of the housing and main roads whilst of course any plans to add floodlights would be at an exceptional cost to the club.  So, if you are ever planning on visiting in the Autumn or Winter months, at least you don’t have to worry about the game being switched to a Friday night – Bremer SV will require natural daylight!

Star Player

We were keen to see Dutch striker Nikky Goguadze in action following a hattrick in the last match and another treble versus Lubeck in a 4-1 victory two weeks earlier too.  in total the Number 30 has scored 10 goals in 9 matches.

Bremer SV v Teutonia Ottensen

The match was as dull as they come.  After a goalless first half we almost accepted that this was going to be a nil-nil.

Bremer SV had the better of the chances and as the game came to the end they were pressing for  late winner which never arrived.  After the home team had come over to the fans to give each other a small applause, both sets of players headed for the dressing room.

One thing we didn’t get to witness was the manual scoreboard being updated as there were no goals.  Of course this may be a reason we choose to return.
