Euro 2024 Adventure

Our Euro 2024 Adventure starts TODAY (Thursday 13th June) so before we hop on a flight to Germany, here’s a little bit of background to the tournament.

The last time Germany hosted the Euro’s was right back in 1988.  Of course, this was before reunification and the tournament was a lot different – just 8 teams participated with two groups of four teams, two semi-finals and the memorable final which produced the best EVER goal (in our opinion) when Marco Van Basten scored THAT volley against the Soviet Union.  West Germany themselves reached the semi-finals, losing to an 88th minute Van Basten goal too.

This year  in Germany, 24 teams will compete for the European Championship Trophy split initially across 6 groups.  Whilst many of us will be focussed on Group C which England will participate in, we are plotting some other action first.

Each Group includes four teams.  The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knock-out stages whilst the four best placed teams who finish third in their group will also make the cut.  Will this help to create a better tournament, or will we see some of the bigger teams go easy knowing that a place is virtually secured even if there is a hiccup along the way?  The groups look like this:

Following the group stages, the Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final will be knock-out, to include 30 minutes extra-time and penalties when required.  The finalists will compete at The Olympiastadion, Berlin on Sunday 14th July 2024.

Securing Tickets

Our intention has been to begin the our Euro 2024 adventure at the tournament’s opening match which always see’s the host nation compete.  The frenzy for tickets to this game intensified in the UK when Scotland were drawn as Group A rivals and would be the opening day opposition against Germany.  The match is being played at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena tomorrow evening.

I am sure you have read that getting tickets to any game in this tournament was difficult with many people (ourselves included) failing to secure any tickets at all in the opening ballot.  The following ballot was more successful and we will be attending some matches during the tournament – more of that to follow in the next updates.

Tickets for Germany v Scotland are sporadically becoming available on the official app at £900 however they disappear before you can “Add to Cart” and select all the boxes which contain a motorcycle!  We continue to search…

Heading to Germany

Ticketless, our mission is still to head to Germany and many months ago we decided to head to Nuremberg and we are on a flight there very shortly.

Nuremberg is approximately 170km from Munich, allowing us to visit one of our favourite cities, savour the eve of the Championships in nice surroundings whilst keeping alert for tickets!  Tomorrow we have an early train booked for Munich and the ICE train takes just 1 hour and 3 minutes.

We will provide an update tomorrow regarding our evening in Nuremberg as we head to Munich in search of tickets…
