This morning saw the fixtures for The Bundesliga announced with matches starting on the 18th August.  Here we summarise all of the information you need.

Champions face Werder Bremen!

Reigning champions Bayern Munich will start their defence of their title away against Werder Bremen on Friday 18th August as they seek a 12th consecutive Bundesliga crown.  Their opposition will hope to cause an upset, however last season the Bavarian side showed no mercy when thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 away on the opening day.

Borussia Dortmund meanwhile who were the last club to stop Munich winning the title back in 2012 start their quest to topple them with a match versus FC Koln.  Having lost the title on the final day of last season, needing just a victory to take the title, Dortmund will be hoping to finally go one better this season.  Youngster Youssoufa Moukoko is definitely one to watch this season.

Promoted Teams receive tough start

Promoted Teams face tough tests too as the two teams rising up from Bundesliga 2 have had their first opponents revealed.  Heidenheim who won the title will face Wolfsburg Away.  Darmstadt who finished in the second automatic promotion spot will face Eintracht Frankfurt as they look forward to their Bundesliga campaign.

Top Picks!

Some juicy fixtures which people will be looking for are not on the calendar this year.  With Schalke being relegated there will be no Revierderby against Dortmund, whilst Union Berlin will not be hosting their city rivals Hertha Berlin who also lost their place in the Bundesliga.

The first Der Klassiker meeting between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will take place on 5th November with Dortmund hosting their rivals.  The return meeting is scheduled for 31st March in Munich!
